Andrew Bruhn
Andrew Bruhn is a versatile musician, actively working as a choral conductor, composer, and trumpeter. He received his Master of Sacred Music degree in choral conducting from Luther Seminary and St. Olaf College, where he studied conducting with Anton Armstrong, Christopher Aspaas, and Mark Stover. Andrew is currently Director of Choral Music at Rockford Christian Schools in IL, where he teaches 6-12th grade choirs, class piano, and AP Music Theory. He is also the choir director at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rockford, IL. Mr. Bruhn spent two years as the director of the Luther Seminary Choir and Luther Brass in St. Paul, MN, where he also worked as a church musician and choral music educator. While in Minnesota he sang and recorded with the Twin Cities’ group Magnum Chorum. He recently served as the conductor/clinician for the District 8 ILMEA Elementary Chorus. The American Choral Director’s Association and National Association for Music Education have published Andrew’s writing on vocal music education.
He studied composition with David Cherwien and James E. Bobb, with additional coaching from Christopher Aspaas and John Ferguson. His music is published by Choristers Guild, GIA, and Concordia, and has been featured in workshops and festivals throughout the country. Andrew's concert band piece, Beach Spring, has received several performances by high school and college bands, and will be published by Alfred Music in 2019. He was honored to have two of his pieces selected for a J.W. Pepper Editors' Choice. Andrew won the 2017 IL American Choral Directors Association Composition Contest.
As a trumpeter he has performed with many fine ensembles, including the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, training orchestra for the Chicago Symphony; Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra; and Interlochen’s World Youth Symphony Orchestra. Andrew studied at the Interlochen Arts Camp, the Aspen Music Festival and School, and earned a BM in Trumpet Performance from Wheaton College. He was the October 2004 winner of the International Trumpet Guild’s Young Artist Award. His solo playing has been broadcast on The Lutheran Hour, and on WFMT 98.7FM Chicago’s Classical Fine Arts Station. Mr. Bruhn lives is Belvidere with his musical wife, Lydia, their two daughters, and golden retriever.
