CGB1453 Serve the Lord with Gladness
Description
Serve the Lord with Gladness is a vibrant new original work for advanced ensembles, scored for 3–7 octaves of handbells and handchimes. A bright fanfare opens the piece, moving into a lilting melody that alternates between 6/8 and 3/4, supported by malleted bass and flowing inner harmonies. A 4/4 section follows, with handchimes carrying the tune over a light treble obbligato. A rhythmic passage featuring martellato, mart‑lifts, and malleting leads to a slower, lyrical chime‑only melody in a new key. The handbells return with a full, resonant statement of the theme, driving toward a joyful, energetic finish. Serve the Lord with Gladness will make a sparkling concert opener or delightful worship offering.
