Two Manger Carols is a setting for handbells, optional handchimes, flute, and oboe incorporating Whence Comes this Rush of Wings Afar (also known as Carol of the Birds) and Sleep of the Child Jesus.¬† The opening phrase uses the singing bell technique, over which the flute plays a figure representing the ‚?orush of wings‚?Ě and the oboe introduces the carol melody.¬†Throughout the arrangement, the melody moves between handchimes, flute, oboe, and handbells.¬† Care must be taken to balance the dynamics of the various instruments, especially taking care that the oboe doesn't overpower the ensemble.¬† As the piece slows to the end, carefully observe dynamics and musically interpret the text, ‚?oKing of Glory, sleep.‚?̬†
