CGB1410 and the wind blows
Description
Matthew Compton was commissioned to write this piece in memory of a beloved ringer, and was asked to highlight bass chimes and to feature C4/D4 – the ringer’s favorite position. In preparation for writing, Matthew reflected on the varied emotions that accompany the loss of a loved one. Sadness, heartbreak, grief, tension, unrest, unanswered questions, anger, and frustration – all can be a part of the roller coaster of emotions following such a loss. But through it all – even in the midst of grief – there remains hope, light, and peace. The title, and the wind blows, is drawn from John 3:8 and Ecclesiastes 11:5. Both verses remind us that, while we do not understand God’s ways, we can take solace in knowing God will provide and can ultimately find peace. The beloved hymn It Is Well with My Soul is masterfully woven into this original composition, offering a message of enduring faith and hope.
