Michael Jothen
 

Michael Jothen is Professor of Music emeritus, Towson University, Towson, Maryland and emeritus director of the Senior Choir, St. Michael Lutheran Church, Baltimore. He has served Choristers Guild as a previous Board of Directors member, president, and Chair of Anniversary Celebrations. He has assisted church musicians as a clinician, consultant, composer, or conductor in over forty (40) states, Canada and Europe. In addition to numerous published choral compositions he has coauthored three P-8 basal textbook series (Music and You, 1987, Share the Music, 1995, and Spotlight On Music, 2005/08/15) published by McGraw-Hill Education, was a lead author of the McGraw-Hill-Glencoe/Hal Leonard choral textbook series Experiencing Choral Music (2005), and author of Hal Leonard’s Master Strategies for Choir (2007). A current member of the senior choir of St. John’s Lutheran Church, beginning in 2011 he was a member of the national music writing team of the National Association for Music Education (NAFME) resulting in the release of the National Coalition for Core Arts Standards in Music (NCCAS) in 2014. Jothen earned a B.A. from St. Olaf College, M. A. from Case-Western Reserve University, and Ph. D. from The Ohio State University.
