Mary Kay Parrish
is a native of Pascagoula, Mississippi, and holds degrees in piano
and theory from Oklahoma Baptist University and the University of
North Texas. She joined the OBU music faculty in 1964 and recently
retired after 38 years of service. She taught music theory and directed
the auditioned handbell ensemble, the University Ringers, for 20
years. She also is the founder and director of the Jubilation Ringers
at University Baptist Church in Shawnee, Oklahoma, which she directed
for 26 years.
She has received
OBU's Distinguished Teaching Award and their Alumni Achievement
Award.
She is active
as a handbell clinician, composer/arranger and was selected as the
first Jeffers Handbell Supply, Co., composer of the year. She has
been guest conductor for Baptist and American Guild of English Handbell
Ringers festivals on the local, Area, and National levels and has
served on the AGEHR Area IX and the National Board of Directors.
She is married
to John Parrish, former executive vice president at OBU, and they
have two grown children.
