| Venita
MacGorman
is Associate Director of Music at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist
Church in Norman, Oklahoma, where she directs four handbell choirs
and three vocal choirs and coordinates the children's music ministry
and the handbell ministry. She holds the degrees of Bachelor of
Music Education from Texas Christian University and Master of Music
Education from the University of Oklahoma.
Venita is a
past chairman of Area IX of the American Guild of English Handbell
Ringers (AGEHR) and of the Central Oklahoma Chapter of Choristers
Guild. She has led workshops on handbells and children's choir methods
at the state, area and national levels for the AGEHR, Choristers
Guild, and various denominational church music organizations. She
has conducted several Young Ringers Festivals as well as the Sante
Fe Christmas Bell Festival and the Lutheridge Winter Festival.
Venita has been
a column coordinator and frequent contributor to Overtone
magazine, the official publication of the AGEHR. She is the author
of the AGEHR publication The Director as Teacher: Working with
the Beginning Handbell Choir and, with her daughter Erin, of
the handbell method book Basic Training for Bells, published
by Choristers Guild.
