Douglas
Helvering, born 1977, is Music Professor, Metropolitan College
of Kansas City, Missouri.
Douglas holds a B.M.
from University of Nebraska-Omaha; an M.M. from Westminster Choir
College Rider University; and is working towards a D.M.A. from the
University of Kansas. Honors include Golden Key National Honor Society,
Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities and he is a member
of ASCAP and ACDA. Golfing and reading are two of his hobbies.
R. Douglas Helvering's
music is gaining in popularity among choral professionals around
the world. His music's artistry and emotional appeal have earned
him many commissions and prestigious performances (including performances
at ACDA national and regional conventions, MENC conventions, major
art festivals, and at Carnegie Hall). He strives to write fresh
new music that offers challenge and reward to today's choral musicians.
Douglas says "I
got my musical start as an 8th grader, and my music education was
invaluable in my development. My music for youth choirs is written
with the hope that the students will grow musically while being
stimulated artistically."
