Her undergraduate years included piano studies at L'Accademia Chigiana in Siena, Italy. She has studied composition, choral directing, choral arranging and music education at the graduate level at Westminster Choir College, Princeton, New Jersey, and continues as a composition student of Joel Phillips.

Nancy Gifford has taught music extensively in schools and churches, where she has worked with students in grades K-12 (including her own children). In 2006 Nancy decided to limit her teaching in order to concentrate on composing. She currently accepts commissions for original choral works and speaks to local choirs as they prepare her music for performance.

An ASCAP member in author and composer categories, Ms. Gifford's music has been published by Hinshaw Music and the Lorenz Corporation, with upcoming releases by Santa Barbara Music and Choristers Guild in 2009.
