Susan Naylor Callaway

Susan Naylor Callaway is a free-lance composer and piano teacher at Pellissippi State Technical Community College. Susan has served as church pianist in churches in Kentucky, Florida, Alabama and Tennessee and taught Secondary Piano, Aural Skills and Fundamentals of Theory at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas from 1999-2000. Prior to her present teaching position at Pellissippi State Technical Community College, she taught in the Pre Department at Samford University and from 1984 0 1994, taught Orff Music to preschool children at the Child Enrichment Center in Memphis, Tennessee.

Susan graduated from Samford University in 1977 with a Bachelor of Music (summa cum laude) and received a Master of Music Education from Samford University in 1979. She holds certification in Orff Schulwerk, Level I, II and II from the University of Memphis.

One of her anthems was listed as one of the "Honored Ten" for the year in Creator Magazine in 2001 and anthems were listed in the "Select Twenty" in Creator Magazine in 1999 and 2000. In 1970 she was honored as "Outstanding Young Woman of America" and has been honored by Phi Kappa Phi (based on grades); Pi Kappa Lambda - Music Scholastic Honor Society; Hypatia; and Alpha Lambda Delta Scholarship Award.

Her compositions appear in the catalogs of Choristers Guild; Lorenz Corporation (Monarch Music, Exaltation and Purifoy Publishing Company); Hal Leonard Corporation (Daybreak); Hinshaw Music Inc.; Shawnee Press, Inc.; LifeWay Christian Resources; Church Street Music; and Brentwood-Benson Music Publishers.

Memberships include ASCAP and Southern Baptist Church Music Conference. Born in Gadsden, Alabama in 1955, she is married with three children and a member at Central Baptist Church, Bearden, Tennessee. Her hobbies include travel, reading, swimming, snorkeling, going to the theater and to movies.
