Marcelyn Smale

 

Marcelyn Smale teaches music education courses for graduate students, music education majors, and elementary education majors. She teaches first-year ear training for music majors and minors, and she team teaches two of the core courses for the Master of Music program. She has taught music at every level from preschool to adult, including public schools in Illinois and Ohio, MacPhail Center for the Arts in Minneapolis, and summer programs at various colleges and universities.

Dr. Smale earned a Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of Minnesota, with a specialty in early childhood music. She received a Master of Music degree from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, and Bachelor of Music degree from St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN; both those degrees were in Organ Performance and Literature. She holds teacher certification in Orff Schulwerk and Kodaly methodologies and has had extensive traing in in Dalcroze Eurhythmics.
