Cox was an assistant arranger and musician for productions at the Dallas Theater Center. He also started a company called "Jingl-Izers," which wrote and produced music for radio and television advertising. During the 80's Cox was in recording studios nearly every day of the week, overseeing sessions. During this time he began a long-time collaboration with Jody Lindh, writing and publishing musicals for youth and children. He increasingly had more interest in sacred music publishing and less in advertising. He became a freelance transcriber/arranger/engraver for Word Music and did that for a number of years until he started doing the same for Hal Leonard Corporation. Most of his work has been in "Billboard" country music. Cox has transcribed and arranged sheet music and books for just about every country artist you could name. He has also arranged song books of some of the best known contemporary Christian recording artists and worship leaders, including Don Moen, Steven Curtis Chapman and Bill Gaither and Michael W. Smith. Working as a freelance composer and arranger continues to be his primary source of income. Recent projects for Hal Leonard Corp. include the soundtrack from "Walk The Line," and artist folios for Dierks Bentley and Kenny Chesney. Since moving to Los Alamos, New Mexico in '91, Joe has had 40+ sacred anthems published, with Abingdon Press, MorningStar Music, Lorenz Corp., Augsburg Press, G.I.A., Bourne Company and Choristers Guild. He was the leader and drummer for "Altar of Souls," a contemporary music ministry of Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church. Cox was the worship leader for a national convention of the Order of St. Luke, held at the Glorieta Conference Center outside Santa Fe in the summer of 2004. In summer of 2006 his Rite I settings of the Kyrie, Sanctus and Agnus Dei will be used at the General Convention of the Episcopal Church USA. |

Joe
Cox has
a B.A. in music, business and theology from Austin College in Sherman,
Texas. After graduation he joined the staff of "The United
Methodist Reporter" in Dallas, working in the editorial offices
while attending Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist
University.
