Q. What is the process for submitting a composition for publication with Choristers Guild?

A. We receive unsolicited compositions on a daily basis. All submissions will be reviewed, but because of the volume, this may take 2-3 months. Please be patient, and you will hear from our editors eventually. Our primary focus is publishing sacred music for children's and youth choirs, as well as handbell music.

Q. I want to do just a portion of a musical published by Choristers Guild. May I print copies of the portions I'm using for use by my choir?

A. No, you may not make copies of our publications, in part or in its entirety, if it is still in print. If we allow one person to do this, we must make the same concession for anyone, and this will, in essence, take money out of our composers' pockets. Exception: If the music is permanently out-of-print, you may contact the Choristers Guild Copyright & Permissions Administrator for a license to photocopy out-of-print music. (See note)

Q. I want a demonstration cassette/CD of a musical published by Choristers Guild for each of my singers, but I don't want to buy a copy for everyone. Is there another way?

A. Yes! If you have purchased one copy of the demonstration recording, simply contact the Choristers Guild Copyright and Permissions Administrator for a license to duplicate the recording. The fee is $2.50 for each duplicate. (See note) Online license and permission form is also available.

Q. May I make copies of the accompaniment cassette/CD of a musical published by Choristers Guild?

A. No, you may not make copies of an accompaniment recording for a Choristers Guild publication.

Q. What is a mechanical license? Do I need one? How do I get one?

A. A mechanical license is necessary if you plan to record (audio or audio/visual) any performance of a Choristers Guild publication, other than a single copy for archival purposes. The standard rate is .085 per song (under 5 minutes) per recording, or .0165 per minute (for performances longer than 5 minutes) per recording. However, it is our policy to always charge a minimum fee of $10.00 for this service. You may contact the Choristers Guild Copyright and Permissions Administrator for a mechanical license. (See note) Online mechanical license is also available.

Q. May I copy an excerpt from The Chorister?

A. You must contact the Choristers Guild Copyright & Permissions Administrator if you wish to copy any excerpt from The Chorister. (See note) Online license and permission form is also available.

Q. May I copy a piece of music that is out-of-print?

A. If a piece is out-of-print, please contact the Choristers Guild Copyright & Permissions Administrator for a reprint license. This will allow you to print as many copies as you need (provided Choristers Guild still holds the copyright). (See note) The fee for this service is as follows:

½ current selling price for same type item, based on number of pages and format

In all cases, a minimum charge of $5.00 will be assessed.
