In the April/May 2008 issue of
The Chorister
We thank God
for you, Helen Kemp, and rejoice in all that you have done to instill
your vision and passionate belief in the ability of children, to
not only participate, but to lead the worship of the church. Your
influence has been enormous and we all feel extremely privileged
to share in what you have so faithfully nurtured. We celebrate you
and your ninety years and wish God's continued blessing upon you.
In this very
special issue of The Chorister, Helen shares the story
of her first ninety years. Her story will make you laugh and cry,
as well as the heartfelt tributes sent from some of her colleagues,
students, family and friends.
As I received
and gathered these tributes to Helen, I was overcome to realize
the many beautiful words people used to describe her. I began to
make a list of these words and ninety of these expressions can be
found on pages 44 and 45. I felt challenged to take three of these
images and resolve, with God's help, to make them my own. So I offer
you the same opportunity, to allow yourself to be encouraged, challenged,
and inspired to live more intentionally as you carry on this deeply
meaningful and poignant work with your own choristers.
On February
17, Helen conducted a service of celebration with 150 children singing
her own compositions at Trinity Church, Wall Street, New York City.
You will be delighted to watch the webcast at www.trinitywallstreet.org.
A birthday filled with joy to you, Helen, on March 31! And may God
keep you, all the days of your life, in the palm of his hand!
