In the August/September 2007
issue of The Chorister
[The
August/September 2007 issue includes a pullout section sent to members
of Choristers Guild - Rehearsal Tools for Teachers]
As you take
this issue of The Chorister from your mail slot, I hope
you do so with the realization that a pot of gold has fallen into
your hands! While you may have enjoyed some relaxing days on the
beach this summer, Eileen Jones Straw worked tirelessly. With her
extremely talented team, all extraordinary musicians, directors,
educators and writers, Eileen has pioneered a set of rehearsal tools
that you will never want to be without. As you read her suggestions
for use on page 12 of this issue, you will delight in the potential
for growth for you and your choir this year. Many thanks to Eileen
as Designer and Editor of Rehearsal Tools for Teachers in addition
to her gifted team: John Horman who prepared the sections on Melody,
Musicianship and Worship; and Jeff Reeves and Mary Hoffman who contributed
the sections on Rhythm and Singing, respectively. Whoever said "only
the best for the child" must have seen a preview of their work!
As we move through
the season of Pentecost, Marilyn Comer shares many ideas for how
to engage your choristers—and all children in your church
community—in living and being the good news. Carol Nyberg
offers inspired yet very short choir devotions that can quickly
help focus your children to do the work that has been given to them
to do. Pamela Vandewalker suggests a plethora of ways to accomplish
many things from the very beginning with your youngest choristers.
In the midst
of our various responsibilities and busyness, Andrea Baxter encourages
us not to lose sight of the relationship we have with Jesus. As
she brilliantly suggests: "Like Martha, go ahead and invite
Jesus into your life and music ministry. And, like Mary, pay attention
while he's there."
Have a blessed
and rich return to your music making this fall.
